The interesting thing about success — whether you’re referring to success in business, sport, or life in general — is that we only really value it AS success if it happens over and over again. We have special phrases designed to deride people who make magic happen, but only once. We call them “flame-outs” or “one-hit wonders” or “flashes in the pan” or as having “beginner’s luck” or a “sophomore slump.”
Our culture defines success as something that happens over and over again.
So how do you ensure that success becomes a defining characteristic of your organization, of your department, of your product line or category? It’s simple: all you have to do is be successful over and over again.
That’s not meant to be cheeky or trite, it’s an honest answer that the Quartz Open Framework allows us to provide. It is our belief that success doesn’t need to be daunting if you identify the insights and decisions that made you successful and leverage those behaviors methodically over and over again. Quartz provides both the process and the structure for success, and business managers can simply drive the machine over and over again.
The presentation below provides a quick overview of the framework and how it works and more information is available on the Quartz website.*
At a high level though, there are a lot of reasons that we choose to build our workshops, strategies, and engagements around Quartz:
- Quartz is open-source with a Creative Commons Attribution License. We (or anyone!) can use, modify, improve, or build upon Quartz without a license, without permission and without restriction except in that the original Quartz framework needs to be referenced in any offshoots. This means that we can deliver Quartz-based solutions to our clients without spending their budget on licensing fees.
- The basis for Quartz is a simple language that can easily be leveraged throughout an organization without advanced training. It only takes five minutes to understand how Quartz works and its language can be used by any department in a business and can be easily layered on top of any existing processes or frameworks being used by specific teams (i.e., Agile, Lean, Kanban, Scrum, Pragmatic, etc.)
- Quartz makes the process of innovation faster and relieves organizational logjams. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if you could implement a process that could be tailor-made to accentuate all of your company’s strengths while simultaneously minimizing all of its weaknesses? The flexibility of Quartz makes it possible.
Want more reasons? There are plenty but no need to list them all here. We are believers in what Quartz is capable of and everyone on our team has seen it create success firsthand. The Quartz site says, “INSIGHT is not an accident, INNOVATION is repeatable, and SUCCESS takes more than luck.” We agree 100% and have seen those results with our own eyes.
It’s true: with the right process, all you have to do is be successful over and over again.
* If you remember the old commercial about the hair club president also being a client, the reverse is true in this case: we promote Quartz because we love it, and we love it so much that all of our partners also made contributions to the first publicly-released version of Quartz.
